Database Fields

Description
Title Title of the practice, guidance document or fact sheet.
Summary Summary of the practice, guidance document or fact sheet. This should describe the intent of the practice and its use in the workplace.
Outcome Researched practices have measurable outcomes which demonstrate or provide indicators on why they are considered "best" by the organization.
N/A means not applicable.
Type of Information There are 8 types of information possible:

Researched Best Practice
Best practices identified through research study using scientific methods to generate findings.
Workplace Best Practice
Best practices and solutions identified through benchmarking-type examination of a workplace(s) or submitted from an individual workplace. For benchmarking initiatives, the practices and solutions are identified as being common to high performers. e.g. Results of Orientation benchmarking. For practices and solutions submitted from individual workplaces, implementation of the practices has resulted in self-confirmed success for the workplace.
Safe Practice
Practices that are deemed suitable for use by most workplaces or specific to industry groups, e.g. Industry health and safety guides.
Guidelines
General information to help workplaces develop safe operating procedures but are not specific enough to be deemed a practice. e.g. MOL Guide to Forklift Operation.
Technical Publication
Detailed information related to a hazard or process. e.g. NIOSH Criteria Documents.
Fact Sheet
Short document that highlights key information related to hazard or process e.g. CCOHS Infograms.
Hazard Alert
Provides specific information to deal with specific hazard or circumstance. Would include recognition and control. e.g. MOL and SWA alerts.
Tools
Ready to use models,checklists, forms and templates. e.g. IAPA inspection form.
Topic Safety, Management and other topics are provided. These topics may change as new documents are provided in the database.
Sector A list of sectors is provided. All sectors indicates that the practice may be useful to multiple sector groups.
Published by If applicable the name of the organization which published the practice.
Publication Year If applicable the year that the practice was published..
Workplace Location If applicable the location of the workplace where the practice was developed.
Workplace Size If applicable the size of the workplace where the practice was developed.
Workplace Environment If applicable the workplace environment (unionized or non-unionized) where the practice was developed.
Document Format

Documents can be loaded up to the website once the record information has been completed and verified by the Contributor. Only formats such as Word, WordPerfect, PDF or HTML(text only) can be accepted.
URL Address Documents available on the World Wide Web can be linked to the database if the Internet URL address (include the http://) is provided.

Source information will be included on the database if indicated on the contribution form (a choice to make specific contact information non-public is available)
